Camp season is in full swing! This is the time of year that yields all of those happy faces that we spend the entire winter preparing for. We have a great team of overseas staff this year, in addition to our native staff that helps us prepare for the summer season prior to opening!
We had our annual Department of Health visit very early on in the season and with very good results. Now that demanding review is out of the way, we are anticipating a first-time accreditation process through the American Camping Association. If we receive this accreditation, it will acknowledge a higher standard for which we have striven for many years, but most intensely in the last two or three. This process will take place every three years thereafter, in order for us to maintain this credibility. Hopefully, more and more parents will put their faith in us as a result, and we can provide for additional children every year.
One of the greatest benefits that we hope to obtain is the credibility that this accreditation will ensure in the hearts and minds of the audience that we hope to reach out to: the parents and caregivers of the special-needs children in our communities, our state and our world. And I say, “Why not?” We already have a camper who travels here from England every summer with her family and spends a week with us while her family visits their relatives a few towns away. Several of our campers have come from neighboring states as well. After all, this is a Rotary camp, and the largest supporters have always been Rotarians, and that is an international community.
Think of us on August 7th as we undergo this accreditation process, and know that we will also be thinking of all of you out there who support us with your time, your finances, your food, etc! We are so grateful to be given so much by so many in the Rotary. Until next time…
Yours in camping,
