Executive Director's Report

What do they say about time? That it flies when you are having fun? Springtime always seems to go very quickly at the camp. Perhaps because days are filled with deadlines and outside is changing, inviting the world to renew itself in magnificent shades of green! This is most certainly my favorite time at camp, watching the rebirth of all that is here, all that has been dormant for months, spring back to life. The silence is so loud, however, and soon it will be filled with squeals of joy and laughter.

The camp looks great right now although we still have several projects to complete. We know that we have been very fortunate to have the inmates from the Suffolk County Correctional facility in here to complete some very huge and creative projects for us. Additionally, we had the Port Jefferson Rotary and Rocky Point Rotary, along with the Port Jefferson Interact and Rotoract youth clubs from these towns work together to “Mulch Out” the perimeter gardens around each of the buildings! We missed this groups’ semiannual effort after Sandy but they made up for missing us last fall! This was an event powered by a well-oiled machine! They worked tirelessly, collaboratively, and happily, and the results are magnificent! Thank you to these two groups and the youth and families who worked “the Pile”! We really owe you so much.

Our next open house is on the 28th of April. If you are out and about, please stop in and say hello and take a walk around the camp!

Till next time,

Yours in Camping,

Bridget Costello
