Executive Director's Report

Springtime Greetings from Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck!

Just recently, a new Catholic Pope was selected. With the faith that Catholics around the world are experiencing, a parallel can be drawn here at the camp. Many of our structures have been given a new beginning as well, with the help of some very talented and hard-working volunteers. The New Dining Hall and the adjoining old dining hall have a beautiful updated look that will really make a breathtaking, tranquil setting for your special affair.

We have several events happening this month beginning with our respite weekend on March 22nd through March 24th. At the conclusion of the Respite, we move on to our 3rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt to be held on the morning of Sunday, March 24th at the camp. Later on the same day we have an open house from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. It will be very busy weekend at the camp! Please stop by and visit and bring someone that might benefit from these services with you.

Our summer program has begun to take shape, with overseas staff making plans to arrive in June. We have an itinerary of professional volunteers who assist us in our training and have begun to plan these sessions and our entertainment for the summer as well. We are open for ideas and your specific talents are welcome at the camp. If you are discarding costumes, we often dress up for our talent shows and our themed weeks. Several of our themes include Pirates, Wild West, Famous Americans, Disney, Under the Sea, etc. Please keep the camp in mind!

A very special “Thank You” to the “Amazing” Squaws, the group of women whose efforts on behalf of the camp are endless! Without their help and financial support, the camp would not be able to provide all that it does. Stay tuned for their Annual Chinese Auction at the Polish Hall in Riverhead on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 6pm. Come support an amazing group of women!

Next month, we welcome Rocky Point Rotary along with Port Jefferson Rotary and Interact Club to assist with spring cleanup! We are so appreciative for their support through the years! This day always proves to be a day of fun and fellowship! Additionally, the Timberland employees from Deer Park and Riverhead locations will be at camp for their semi-annual service day. This is the third season for Timberland staff. They claim to love the camp, but the camp loves them right back!

In the words of Edmund Burke, “Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.” Rotarians understand this more than most. We, who work with children with disabilities, understand it too.

Til next time…
