Executive Director's Report

Is it really mid-November already? Time flies during the off-season even though many folks ask us, “Are you even open after the campers go home?” We become very focused on our fundraising endeavors post-camp season. Interestingly enough, we already have hired for 2014 at this writing — not all of the staff, but several.

We just had our flagpole put back up. It has been down since the construction started and we are very proud to display this out on the lawn. Many thanks to the efforts of Rich Ely and his crew, for re-fashioning the top spire and mounting the new flagpole securely. Another thank you to Sean Ryan, our grounds supervisor, for getting the huge flag out there immediately! Sean has worked tirelessly for the past several months to ensure that the camp is always presented in the best light possible. Thank you, Sean!

WE ARE NOW AN ACA-ACCREDITED CAMP! Good job to Sheaugh Costello, a staff member at the camp who worked diligently on this massive undertaking over the last two years. This means that Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck goes above and beyond what the Department of Health (our oversight agency) has mandated.

The ACA (American Camping Association) is now a logo that you will be seeing on all of our camp literature and in our advertising materials. I am very proud to be at the helm while this has occurred, as I know that several others had attempted this process in the past, but with Sheaugh’s attention to detail and tireless efforts, we were able to focus and build on what those before us attempted. Thank you to Gary, Bill, and Jean for paving the way! Thank you to the Moriches Rotary Club for believing that this was possible and supporting our efforts to get it accomplished. We will be up for re-certification in three years.

The season has yielded very successful turnouts at our fundraising events. The Oktoberfest, the Fuoco Golf Memorial, The Jodi Shapiro Memorial, and the Spooky Walk all found favorable weather, and fabulous attendance! Thanks to all the Rotaries who come to volunteer their time, and for others for their continued patronage at these events. We could not do it without you!

Our first-ever Casino Night was a total success, raising over $6,400 for the camp. Thanks to the newly formed Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck Patrons for all their hard work in putting this event together!

Be well, stay warm, and Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Yours in Camping,
Bridget Costello
